Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior political figure commented the attack made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
